Lüdenscheid, September 2024. A division of labour has proved its worth in architectural lighting: Spotlights are used for accentuation, the "focal glow" – downlights are used for general lighting, the "ambient luminescence". With Iku downlights for track, this classic combination can now be realised economically, flexibly and stylishly wherever track is planned or already exists as infrastructure.
Whether in new buildings or revitalised existing ones, lighting concepts with ERCO 3-phase track are more relevant than ever. They offer the greatest possible flexibility of use, based on proven and robust technology. This makes track systems durable and future-proof. Typical applications include museums, but also hotels, restaurants and shops. There they mainly carry spotlights that can be aligned to accentuate objects, surfaces or zones in the room. Wallwashers for vertical lighting are also frequently installed on track.
However, holistic, perception-orientated lighting design is only complete with an additional component: uniform, glare-free and efficient ambient lighting. ERCO now offers Iku, a downlight for track mounting, specifically for this purpose. With the clear radii and lines of its design, it harmonises particularly well with all cylindrically shaped spotlights and fits seamlessly into track systems: An ideal solution for any architecture, from reception areas to boutique offices.
As track downlight, Iku combines the high visual comfort of classic recessed luminaires with the flexibility of spotlights in the track. In practice, this means: If the furniture layout or the use of a room changes, lighting can be easily adapted. Freely positionable Iku track downlights replace rigid recessed luminaires that are permanently mounted in the louvre. Planning ambient lighting only where it is needed means that fewer luminaires are required, which also reduces energy consumption. The special LED technology with lens optics developed in-house by ERCO, as used in the Iku recessed luminaires, ensures optimum efficiency and visual comfort.
The modular design of this lighting technology makes Iku track downlights even more adaptable: The three available light distributions - wide flood (70°), extra wide flood (80°) and oval flood (20° x 60°) - are defined by interchangeable lenses, similar to ERCO spotlights, which can be changed in no time at all. Practical with the oval flood distribution, which is ideal for illuminating corridors or long tables, for example: The lenses can be rotated through 90° within the luminaire housing, meaning that the alignment of the oval light distribution is independent of the housing orientation. Iku track downlights with wide flood (70°) light distribution and good glare control (UGR<19) provide standard-compliant light for work. The downlights for track combine high efficiency of over 100 lm/W with outstanding glare protection. The correctly dimensioned anti-glare cones contribute to this effect, as does the pleasant luminance at the light source thanks to the division into two light heads.
In terms of light colours, control interfaces and sustainability, Iku track downlights also meet the high system standards of the ERCO range. The available light colours range from 2700K to 4000K and are consistent with the spectra and colour coordinates of ERCO spotlights. The versions with tunable white technology offer an additional design dimension for infinitely variable light colours ranging from warm white to daylight white. In addition to On-board Dim, DALI and wireless Bluetooth-controllable Casambi versions of the Iku track downlights are available to realise smart control scenarios. The new lights are sustainable not only because of their efficient operation, but also because of their durable design: ERCO has specified a service life of at least 20 years or 75,000 operating hours for all newly developed luminaires in its own ECO Design factory standard ECO Design factory standard . This 20-year service life design also applies to the Iku track downlights.
